How to Upload Images to Cricut Design Space

Step 1 – Open a new project

Once you’ve signed into Design Space, click on the New Project button (there’s also another button in the upper right corner).

Step 2 – Click Upload

Click the Upload button located at the bottom of the left side-menu bar.

Step 3 – Click Upload Image

Cricut Design Space is compatible with JPG, PNG, BMP, SVG, GIF or DXF files. But since we work with JPG, PNG, BMP and SVGs, our Cricut Cribs will focus on how to upload these image types. To learn how to upload SVGs, please visit our How to Upload SVG to Cricut Design Space tutorial.

Click the Upload Image button in the upper left quadrant of your screen.

Step 4 – Find the image you want to upload

You can drag & drop your image (JPG, PNG or BMP file) into the indicated space, but I prefer to browse for the file and upload it from its folder. Click on the Browse button to open a search folder.

Step 5 – Select your image (JPG, PNG or BMP files)

Once you’ve navigated to the folder containing the image you want to upload to Design Space, click on that file and then click Open.

Step 6 – Select the image type

Choose the image type that best suits your uploaded image. When in doubt, select Complex. Click Continue.

Step 7 – Modify and clean up your image

Using the Select & Erase tools, modify and clean up your image, if needed or as desired. Then click Continue.

Step 8 – Save your image

Select Save as a Cut Image and then click Save.

Step 9 – Select uploaded image

Your uploaded image will now be displayed alongside other recently uploaded images (if any). To begin working on that image, simply select it by clicking on it, and then click Insert Images.

Your image (JPG, PNG or BMP file) is now on the Canvas, and you’re ready to go!
