Halloween Apothecary Jars and Free Printable Labels
Our best Halloween display has to be our creepy apothecary cabinet, filled with all sorts of nasty potions and powders and spells. We’ll show you how to make your own spooky display of Halloween apothecary jars, and we have tons of high-quality free printable labels for you, too!
The time has come. The wait is over! After months of gathering and weeks of work, we’ve finally finished another batch of Halloween apothecary jars & potion bottle labels for our Toad & Broomstick Apothecary Shop display!
Our humble little spice shop has grown since last year, so we had to extend the display space a wee bit. Looks good, doesn’t it?
Just like last year, this was quite a bit of work, but I have to say, it was worth it! And just like last year, we’re sharing all of these potion bottle labels with you, free for your personal use! Now, if you’re ready for a long and difficult journey through swamps and mountains and forests as we gather our roots and herbs for our potions and poisons, then let’s begin…

Oh, and one last thing before we start: if you remember, in last year’s Apothecary Jars post, I talked about the prep work for the jars, bottles and lids. I also talked about how I made my potion bottle labels look torn and aged. So if you need a refresher on how to do that prep work, you can always refer back to that post for the info, as I won’t be covering it again.
Ok, enough of my yapping! Let’s get familiar with our new jar fillers, shall we?
As you can see, I again used all kinds of jar fillers: some from Amazon.com, some from Dollar Store but mostly from our backyard. A little hint here: I try only to use fillers that wouldn’t spoil over time, so I can use the same jars year after year.
Mini Truffula Trees Apothecary Jar
Greg named this jar, and it has to be my favorite one of all! I mean, who else can combine Dr Seuss with Halloween, right? Hahahaha 😀 Well, I bet you know, after seeing this, you should expect to see anything here at The Navage Patch. LOL. Anyway…back to the subject: can you guess what they are? Come on – give it a try. Maybe this close-up picture will help.
Could you guess? They are dried clematis flowers! No kidding! Do you see the swirly things in the picture below? Those are what used to be clematis flowers in full bloom. But after the flowers drop their petals, the vines are left with these swirly things.
This year I picked a bunch and tried drying them – you know, just to see what they would look like. And apparently they make the best mini Truffula trees!
Now if you don’t have clematis in your backyard, you can always use pompoms instead. Just hot glue a little stick to handmade or store-bought pompoms, and there you have your own fully grown mini Truffula trees in minutes. 😉
Goblin Gallstone Apothecary Jar
The Halloween apothecary jar that looks like Lawrence of Arabia holds the Goblin Gallstones. For this one, I used glittered hot glue sticks. I have to say these glittered hot glue sticks are very handy. If you remember, I used the red ones in my Floating Potion Bottle project, and now the green ones turned into Goblin Gallstones.
To create the goblin gallstones, I simply squeezed some hot glue on a metal sheet. If you don’t have a metal sheet, any stone surface or glass surface would also work. Once the hot glue dried hard, I picked each piece and cleared them of the hot glue strings.
Fairy Scat Halloween Apothecary Jar
Did you know that these glittered hot glue sticks also make great Fairy Scat? Hahaha – no kidding! And having a quick/careless hand is a plus, as you get more realistic shapes. LOL.
After filling the bottle with these fairy poops, I cut a small piece from a hot-pink boa and hot glued it on the bottle cap. You know – just to give the whole thing a bit more of a sparkly ‘fairy’ feel 😉
Octopus Head Apothecary Jar
I used Dollar Store decorative bowl fillers for this one. I think they have the perfect shape for an octopus head, don’t you think?
If you don’t have similar bowl fillers, balloons can make a great substitute.
Scarecrow Hair Halloween Apothecary Jar
“It looks even worse in the morning!” As this pretty much sums up my mornings, I was really tempted to use my own hair for this. But the problem is, I have curly hair. So I had to make do with adding raffia into this jar. 😉
But really, anything from shredded paper to dried grass clippings will make a great filler for this jar.

Don’t know where you got all your stuff from, but I love what you created.
Thank you so much for the printables and your great pictures. My daughter loves to decorate for Halloween and I have made poison/potion bottles for her for the past two years. My mermaid tears are tear-shaped plastic shapes to be glued on for card making in a bottle. My vapors are Halloween spider web with a nylon monofilament running up it to keep it aloft in a narrow necked bottle; the glow-in-the-dark green is my favorite! Another has the “mist” escaping around the cork in the bottle! One of my faves is 2 of the little skellies chained together inside a thrifted square decanter! I have covered the sticky glue of a pretty bottle with black lace, then added a label. I am gonna be on the lookout for more containers for next year as well as Halloween markdowns!
Thank you for sharing your jar labels as well as all the pictures. I just wished that I saw this post early in the year. I just love all the detail that you put into your display. I am doing a witches themed trunk and treat this year and I will be using some of your labels for my jars. If I do another themed trunk where skeleton fairy is appropriate, I will borrow your idea from this post. (I would use it this year but it is too late to find any fairies.)
Had a Halloween party for our kids and their families on Saturday. We provided twelve mystery “touch if you dare” containers, Pickled Goblin Eyes (peeled grapes) , Heart of Vampire Bat (small garden pepper shriveled in microwave), Liars Tongues (banana slices cut lengthwise), Witches Warts ( butterscotch chips), Dead Man’s Fat (play dough) etc. All of the grandchildren were so deliciously scared! I wish I had discovered your wonderful Blog earlier!! Thank you for the BEAUTIFUL labels and filling ideas!! Already planning next years event!!

Do you have any suggestions on how to change the name on the label? I love your printables, but I didn’t name my “shop” the same thing.
Hi Sara, without having the original photoshop files (which we are not sharing as it’s our copyrighted work), there is no easy way of changing the shop names. But perhaps you can cut that part out when gluing the labels on your jars and bottles. Good luck on your project! 🙂

I have done everything I am suppose to and still cannot figure out how to print the labels. Please make website more user friendly. I shouldn’t be irritated over some labels. This simple task has taken over 30 mins and I still don’t have what I need.
Hi Melissa, you’re right – you shouldn’t be irritated over some free labels. It’s not like you paid for something that wasn’t delivered. Also please note that our website is one of the most user friendly websites out there – so much so that we actually answer question / comments/ requests that we receive as soon as humanly possible – just like now!
That said, you are telling me “I can’t figure out how to print the labels” and I’m afraid I can’t help with that, as that would be an issue between your printer and your computer. However, if you were trying to say “I can’t figure out how to download the labels,” that I can help with.
Please click on the “Printables F.A.Q” page (it’s on the right hand side of the main menu on the top this page – very easy to find and accessible to everyone!) Once you’re on that page, scroll down till where it says “Ok – I’m in the VIP Patch. What happens next? How do I get those awesome freebies?” and depending on what you’re using (computer or mobile phone) click on the link (orange text) to get the help file.
The steps in that file will show you how to download the printables. Also, if you run into any other possible problems with our free printables, you’re most likely to find the solutions in our “Printables F.A.Q” page. ” I hope this info helps!

Yes, I printed them on normal printer paper, and I stuck them on to the bottles and jars using Modpodge. Dear Navage Patch, I stumbled onto your site looking for something to do with about 250 various sized, empty, Amber glass bottles that were fragrance oil containers for my soap & candle business. Not wanting to discard them, I now know I can “repurpose” them and have some fun!

I’m at a loss. I’ve tried to download these labels via your banner link as well as from my email using the VIP password. I would LOVE to excess these for Halloween deco!!!
I love your labels! I did a small apothecary cabinet out of a discarded medicine cabinet with the door/mirror removed. I had a small jar from dollar tree with blue beads in it, I labeled that Smurf Testicles, and another with mixed color beads I labeled Gnome Vomit.
I just painted a DVD shelf that I rescued from a dumpster, go big or stay home lol I’m working on labeling what bottles I’ve acquired so far and yours will do nicely! Thank you.
